What Happens When You Reuse Your Passwords

Apr 5, 2022

Do you reuse the same password across multiple websites?

This is something that we are all guilty of at one point or another.

However, there is a large problem with doing this. Say, you create an account on a website later down the road that site gets hacked
and your password gets leaked out onto the internet.

Suddenly your password isn’t much of a secret. Once your information is sold or becomes publicly available. Hackers will take your leaked credentials and see what other websites you may have reused them on, or even worse. They may use it to try to gain access to your company’s corporate resources. How do you solve this problem?

The simple answer is commit to using a password manager. This way you use a different password for every site. You only have to remember one strong password and the password manager does the rest. The best part, not only do you drastically increase your online security, but no longer will you have to reset your passwords. When you forget them.

If you’re using the built in password manager and your web browser, you may want to think twice because if you get infected with malware, it is possible for a hacker to extract your passwords from your PC.
